Mr Makwakwa is currently putting up his research proposal towards a PhD programme in management. WORK EXPERIENCE: He has vast experience in the public sector dating back from 1993 as a school teacher. He is worked for several years with the SABC’s Ligwalgwala FM as a Radio Announcer before joining Ehlanzeni District Municipality in the year 2000. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: Mr Makwakwa is heavily involved in community work particularly around the Nkomazi area. He is a founding member of Isonqoba Sisonke Home Based Care Centre, Nkomazi FM and the Vulindlela Forum at the University of Mpumalanga.

Mr Roy Steven Makwakwa has his roots embedded in Nkomazi. Born at Hoestcht Farm (KaPondo) during the late 60s he, like any other child then, endured the most hostile spats and hostilities of the apartheid in South Africa. The 60s and 70s were indeed a deciding era in the political landscape of the country. It is an era heavily characterised by social injustices with farm evictions being at the centre of any other thing. It is as a result of such that he found himself growing up at the neighbouring trust/village called Vlakbult (KaMdladla) after his family was forcefully evicted from the Hoestcht Farm in the early 70s.
