Welcome to Ehlanzeni District Municipality

Ehlanzeni District Municipality (EDM) is one of the three districts in Mpumalanga Province and is located in the Northern Eastern part covering the whole Southern part of the Kruger National Park. EDM covers an area of 27 895.47 km² which is about (36.47%) of the 76 495 km² which is the total estimated land size of Mpumalanga Province. It is bordered by both Mozambique in the east and Swaziland in the South. Other neighboring districts municipalities in South Africa are Sekhukhune in the North, Nkangala in the west and Gert Sibande in the South.

Ehlanzeni is comprised of four local municipalities which are: – Bushbuckridge, City of Mbombela, Nkomazi, and Thaba Chweu. Our strategy will ensure that the municipality’s strategic objectives are communicated in a simpler manner to the relevant target audience. It will also propel the realization of the vision of EDM, that of being “The best performing District Municipality of the 21st century”. Informed by leaders of all spheres of government who have expressed their expectations on improved communication that will market, promote and inform electorates of what government is doing to improve their lives, we are using this platform to also promote investments, economic growth and job creation.

Official Opening of the Mpulanga High Court

The Mpumalanga Division of the High Court will be official opened by the President of the Republic of South Africa on the 08th November 2019. This marks the second High Court to be opened since 1994, this court means that all 9 Provinces have a High Courts respectively. The Court will ensure that people from Mpumalanga will no longer travel to Pretoria to attend to legal matters that require the high court.

The New Council of Ehlanzeni Municipality is required in terms of Section 25 of Local Government Municipal Systems Act, Act 32 of 2000 to adopt a single, inclusive and strategic plan for the development of the municipality.

In line with the National Development Plan, emphasis is on addressing and crafting strategies that are aimed at solving the triple challenge which is, poverty, unemployment and inequality. These attributes are really undermining the gains of democracy and must be attended to without further delays. Role players in their sectors are called upon to contribute their resources and knowledge in the fight against the triple challenge.

The National Development Plan supported by the Mpumalanga Economic Growth and Development Path maps out the five pillars which are sector specific and essential in the growth of the economy in Mpumalanga Province and these are: Job Creation, expand infrastructure, transition to low carbon economy, transform urban and rural space education and training.

The Office of the Mayor in Conjunction with Cogta

The office of the Executive Mayor EDM in conjunction with Cogta Emakhosikati structure handed over stoves and sewing machines to the destitute women residing within the jurisdiction area of Ehlanzeni. Honorable JL Thebethe MPL ,EDM MPAC Chairperson Cllr TS Khoza , Speaker of Council Cllr R Khumalo were amongst the guests who graced the occasion.The purpose of the programme is to assist the unemployed women during this difficult times we are faced with as a country. Cllr J Sidell addressed stakeholders, beneficiaries and media houses gathered at EDM Conference Centre today. Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Social Services Cllr S Mashego emphasized the need to continue reporting violence against women and children.
